I'm wondering if anyone has a JD 4200 (hydro, 4WD) with a 6' 3-pt finish mower. The JD product literature shows that a 4200 can handle a 6' mower but I'm concerned about having enough horsepower to pull a larger mower around on hilly property. Thanks again-

Greg,Make sure you verify the lift capacity of your 4200 (I think the 3-point can lift 1,700 lb at 24"). As long as the mower weighs less than that, which it should, you will have no problem pulling that deck. You might also lok at adding ballast weights to the front of the tractor to stabilize during the time the mower is raised up off the ground. ....

Don't know the HP of your Deere but for comparison my Kubota (23.5 PTO hp) has no problem pulling/running a 72" finishing mower cutting 6"-8" grass as fast as I feel comfortable trying to steer it. I would recomend a rear discharge type so that you can get close to things on both sides.Jeff in NC ....

Greg, I have the same tractor with a 60" mid mount finish mower. The only reason I went with a 60" rather than a 72" was I was worried about scalping on many of my uneven services. The 4200 handles the 60" with absoulutely no problem and I doubt you'd have a problem with the 72". BUT, if you have many trees or obstacles I would consider a mid mount vs. a three point. Your neck and back will thank you every time you mow. The three points are less expensive and easier to put on/off. The mid mount takes ten minutes and you have to crawl arount a little, but it's worth it to me. ....

Thanks to all for the input. I'm going to get either a Befco or Woods 6' rear finish mower with rear discharge. I already have a small JD riding mower for maneuvering around tress and such. The big mower will be used for the open areas so I can get the job done fast. Thanks again! ....
